ELLIOT SOKOLOV

  • Elliot Sokolov is a composer and producer whose work spans the worlds of concert music, dance, theater, and film and television scores. He is probably best known for his work on Sesame Street, where he scored more than one hundred animations created by renowned animator Al Jarnow.  Perhaps his most widely performed concert piece is "Pipedreams for Organ and Alto Saxophone," which was originally commissioned and recorded by the late N.Y. Philharmonic organist Leonard Raver and has been performed throughout the US and Europe. A new recording of the piece performed by organist Randall Harlow and saxophonist Ann Bradfield is currently available.
  •  Elliot Sokolov holds a Master’s degree in composition from Columbia University, and has received a Composer Fellowship from the US National Endowment for the Arts. He has collaborated on several musicals and an opera, and has composed numerous scores for television, film, dance, theater, and national television advertising. He has composed music for noted choreographers including  Joyce Trisler Co,  Jean Erdman, Muna Tseng, Sabatino Verlezza and Nancy Lushington.
  • Elliot is co-composer of the new musical Green, still in development. In May 2025 the show won Best Score and Best Musical Awards in NYC's CreateTheater New Works Festival for shows in progress.  He was a member of the BMI Musical Theater Workshop in NYC for many years and has composed several musicals; He composed music for many theater and dance productions at Open Eye Theater in NYC and Margaretville, NY and at other venues in NYC; Elliot played guitar in Eartha Kitt’s touring band and was part of the original band for the first off-off Broadway production of the musical Little Shop of Horrors.
  • Elliot is also a composer, producer and musician of popular music. Elliot’s record See the Light Feel the Heat (a collaboration with Jack Waldman, as Air Force 1) was mixed by Arthur Baker and released on Streetwise Records in 1984 and became a hip-hop-electro classic; Elliot was a co-composer and producer of the Ray Contreras Band, winner of the WBLS-Budweiser Showdown song contest in the 1980s. That band's album "You Make It Harder" was finally released in 2025 on Past Due Records, 40+ years after it was recorded.
  • Elliot continues to be busy with various music projects.

Would You Like To Swing On A Star?

Recently I was asked by the Warminster Symphony Orchestra's music director Joe Lovecchio to orchestrate the classic American song "Swinging On A Star" by Jimmy Van Heusen and Johnny Burke for performance by soprano Kristen Plumley and the full orchestra. I love to orchestrate for live players, so it was a perfect project. They performed the song wonderfully in January, 2025 in Warminster, PA with an enthusiastic response from the audience.
